When Mister Workaholic said, "I have enough Hilton points to go to the beach for a few days, if you think that would be fun," I didn't imagine four nights and five days of this vista for my front yard:
Once or twice or thrice a day, our kids gathered like this:
and hurried outside to the beach or the wading pool or the onsite splash park. We spent a lot of time outdoors. Beach crust does wonders for holding curls:
and while G screamed if his feet touched the (frigid) water, the rest of us loved the contrast with the bright sun.
L yelled about a thousand times: I'm worried because I can't stop laughing!
and my favorite: hey, ocean! You are one cold ocean!
G stuck to water from a bottle.
We were all sand-encrusted
and we figured out what it takes to get the girls to violate the premise of this blog's title.
There were trenches begging to be dug
and cities to build within the safe shelter
and we knew just whom to invite to play King Kong, especially since we were so irreverent about his naptime:
But the kids did, eventually, rest.
On the drive back home today, the lovely husband reminded me of an upcoming trip to Florida he'll be taking for work. "But remember," he said, "it's the start of points for going back there next year. With what we still have in balance, we can probably stay there for a full week next summer."
Oh, I will remember. I will need to. And it will help.
