Skinny slats

This is what my parents' floor looks like on the main level of their home. It's honey golden in color and the slats are so thin compared with modern floors. This is what a fancy floor looked like back in the day, so I'm told, because more slate meant more labor to lay the floor. (The lovely husband's shoes are there for your handy size reference. (He wears a 10.5, so those are pretty average man shoes.))

Now, it must be declared that this floor appreciation moment comes with a house-sized caveat: I have only come to know it as an adult. For the duration of my residence at this address, it was obscured by carpeting. A tragedy, yes? But you don't know its depths.

This gorgeous floor was covered with lime green shag. It's sad, but true.

Lime. Green. Shag.
