Now, it must be declared that this floor appreciation moment comes with a house-sized caveat: I have only come to know it as an adult. For the duration of my residence at this address, it was obscured by carpeting. A tragedy, yes? But you don't know its depths.
This gorgeous floor was covered with lime green shag. It's sad, but true.
Lime. Green. Shag.
This post is part of a series on the details I love in my parents' home. For the previous post, go herehttp://noteverstill.blogspot.com/2010/03/hardware.html.

And yet that lime green shag was still more attractive than the abomination that covered the floor in the den.
We had a burnt-orange shag in our living room when I was growing up. Now I see the horrors, but back then I loved it. Of course, when we moved across town (to a house with fabulous CORK floors!) the shag was still there. I guess I'll never know what treasures were hiding beneath that carpet.
How long have your parents lived in their house?
We live in an old house. Glass doorknobs, keyholes and all. And our old oak floor looks just the same. Though it spent many years covered in a dusty rose sculptured number. But LIME green? WOW!
