Portrait: through the looking glass

March 12, 2009

Our laundress-in-training helps with the chore. When I'm sitting on the floor by the inside of the porthole door of the washing machine, loading yet another pile of pretreated black bean and strawberry stains, L pushes her way to the outside of the door so we can look at each other and play the tap tap game.

The child was home today for doctor's orders recuperating, but she seemed quite plenty recuperated. There was no slowing her down today. We put her on alert: tomorrow it is back to school.

There is something wonderful about this perspective, seeing each other through the glass. My daughter likes to play peek-a-boo, but she calls it peek-a-poo, which causes her older brother to laugh in a fit of hysterics. They do this every single day, but it never gets old for me. Never.
