Scent memory

Well, our girl E has done sick in a big way. Crazy Monkey has croup and a double ear infection. It's been a long, long, long sick day. It's been the kind of day where she hasn't wanted to be alone at all. She sat on the floor of the bathroom when I showered. We napped together. I haven't sat on a toilet today without having someone then climb up and sit on me.

It's been a long, long, long sick day.

We saw the pediatrician in the morning, dropped off E's two prescriptions at the pharmacy, went home for a nap, and went out to pick up the prescriptions. So E got her first medicine around 5 this evening. The steroid was compounded with some fruity syrup to make it not so disgusting. It smelled like Luden's cough drops to me but she loved it. Of course, that's the one that she only takes two times, total.

Then we opened the amoxycillin for the first of 20 doses she'll be taking. She almost gagged on the first swallow. As its scent hit my nose, I almost gagged with her. That's the same chalky, faux-strawberry amoxycillin of my childhood ear infection days. Has medicine flavoring not improved at all in almost 30 years?

And don't we have an ugly kitchen floor? And don't I have a weirdly shaped thumb?

Nineteen doses to go.
